After his education he had several internships, most notably with Thomas Bertrand. In 2019 he started working in the studio of the well-known German builder, Ulrich Hinsberger.

He achieved bronze in the 2019 Kaminski International Violin Competition.

To further his knowledge he has also attended several master classes in new building and restoration with expert builders such as Iris Carr, Benny Schilbach, Francois Denis, Anderas Kägi, etc.

After his experience as a violin maker in Germany, Maarten started his own workshop in Ghent.  He began teaching at ILSA in 2021.
